laura-miku-9Yesterday, Saturday, October 20th 2012: Laura and Miku got married at The Museum of the City of New York on a beautiful, cool evening in my favorite month for weddings.  I designed their bridal party flowers and here: the bridal bouquet with David Austin Patience Roses, astilbe fronds, brunia berries, dusty miller leaves, kochia stems, olive branches, sage, seeded eucalyptus and freesia.laura-miku-11Laura requested whites and silvers for herself, and to honor Miku’s Nepalese heritage, vibrant reds and oranges, so off to G.Page in the flower market on an extremely rainy Friday morning.laura-miku-3I wanted to mix in pieces to complement the color palettes on both sides of the bridal party: leaves, herbs, berries and more.laura-miku-2laura-miku-1Humphrey was recovering from being snipped on Thursday so it was nice to stay home with him even if he couldn’t help out much.laura-miku-4Then 3 bridesmaid bouquets:laura-miku-54 corsages: laura-miku-6laura-miku-7and 9 boutonnieres later:laura-miku-8it was time for a wonderful celebration.laura-miku-10

hudsonwedding-1A few weekends ago I designed my first wedding!hudsonwedding-2The venue was 632 on Hudson in the Village, a dreamy townhouse of 3 floors and a roof patio.hudsonwedding-3The bride’s name was Christine and the groom’s name was Christopher, how perfect.hudsonwedding-4I used about 60 mason jars of varying sizes for the bars, guest tables, buffet and to blend in with the existing decor.hudsonwedding-7To fill the jars: “Amnesia” and “Quicksand” roses to complement the Maid-of-Honor’s dress shade, creamy “Patience” David Austin Roses (with the most heavenly scent), “Mother’s Choice” peonies, white ranunculus, soft dusty miller leaves and tweedia for a little texture.hudsonwedding-5The existing décor and furniture in the space is so eclectic and interesting, including vintage pieces sourced from flea markets in Paris…hudsonwedding-9and the restrooms got a little dressing up too, including a suggestion to add rose petals to the bathtubs.hudsonwedding-6And now my very favorite part: the bridal bouquet.  I love that Christine added a family heirloom charm.hudsonwedding-10The ribbon wrapping matched the satin of the Maid-of-Honor’s dress and one flower girl held a basket of rose petals, the other a pomander of roses and tweedia.hudsonwedding-11The bouquets were wrapped in the silk ribbon and studded with pearl pins.hudsonwedding-12And the antique books and mercury glass votives chosen by the bride lit the setting with a soft glow just as guests arrived to celebrate…hudsonwedding-8
